May the Peace of Christ be with you always!
I endorse the Canadian Centre for Bioethical Reform without reserve.
Would that I were half as articulate in defending graphic images of aborted babies as they are.
And yet, by the grace of God, I have been allowed to display an enlarged photo of an aborted baby on Parliament Hill, Ottawa, these past eighteen years.
Baby Malachi, aborted at 21 weeks, is presently my most effective communicator of the horror of abortion. He comes with a history which I make available to people.
Among “jars upon jars of frozen children… [t]his little baby boy was found frozen in a jar with three other little children at an abortion mill in Dallas, Texas, in February 1993.… [His] funeral was held at the mammoth front portico of the Dallas City hall” and his burial “at the Cemetery of the Innocents in Dallas.”
The use of graphic images to change minds and hearts is a proven and established means of social reform but there are different reactions to social reform.
Gamaliel, a Pharisee, in the Acts of the Apostles, gave a wise and reasonable reaction.
When Peter and John were forbidden by the religious authorities to preach the resurrection of Christ, they replied:
“You must judge whether in God’s eyes it is right to listen to you and not to God. We cannot promise to stop proclaiming what we have seen and heard.… Obedience to God comes before obedience to men” (Acts 4:1-3, 19-20; 5:29).
Faced with this determination, Gamaliel recounted to the Sanhedrin two social reform movements that had failed, and then recommended:
“What I suggest, therefore, is that you leave these men alone and let them go. If this enterprise, this movement of theirs, is of human origin it will break up of its own accord; but if it does in fact come from God you will not only be unable to destroy them, but you might find yourselves fighting against God” (Acts 5:38-39).
